The nature trail leads from the village of Stará Bašta. The moderately demanding hike will take you through a beautiful forest to a hill called Pagan Castle, which is the most valuable locality in the Gemer part of the Cerová Highlands. This national nature reserve covers an area of around 224 ha. On the edge of the hill are remains of a stone wall of ancient Celts, and 31 pseudo-karst caves once inhabited by our prehistoric ancestors. This place is rich in unique flora and fauna and rock formations that were created long timeago. Many rare animals have found their home here, such as the marsh frog, the European green lizard and others. On the way to the top, you will also visit the Bašta diatreme - exposed remains of a Maar-type volcanic diatreme. Maar is a volcano characterized by powerful eruptions and the formation of a low mound of ejected material on the rim. The trail has seven educational boards. The length of the trail is 3.8 km with an elevation gain of 307 m.
