The Castle Ruin Neideck is located in the historic downtown area of Arnstadt and directly across from the Castle Museum New Palais. Under Count Günther XLI "the Warlike", Neideck the Renaissance castle was built (1553-1560). With the death of Prince Anton Günther II in 1716, Arnstadt lost its status as a royal residence and with that the slow and steady decline of the magnificent moated castle began.

In recent years the conservation and preservation of the remains of the walls, foundations and basements has begun. The public can now experience the ground plan of the former castle and empathize in former times.
Also located inside the Neideck ruin is an exhibition which shows Arnstadt, but also for example, the Erfurt Cathedral in miniature.
