Ferienhaus Sonnstein zu Ebensee am Traunsee - Ebensee

Our snug Sonnstein holiday home is located in the picturesque town of Ebensee in the heart of the Salzkammergut region of Austria. Ebensee is at the southern end of Lake Traunsee. Sonnstein itself is in a sunny south-facing slope, near to the hiking trail leading up to the Grosser Sonnstein mountain and opposite the Feuerkogel family ski and hiking area, with views of Langbathtal valley and the Feuerkogel mountain.

The holiday home can accommodate up to 6 persons and offers a total living space of some 200 m².
It features a large terrace with garden furniture and barbecue and garden. On the ground floor are a spacious kitchen/dining room, a little living room, bathroom with tub, shower and separate WC. From the kitchen/dining room there is direct access to a 16 m² balcony made of local larch wood. On the first floor are a large living room with a storage heating stove, three bedrooms and a WC.

The holiday home is not barrier-free. It is also not possible to drive directly up to the house. The last roughly 80 m need to be covered on foot over a short flight of steps and a footpath. Please note that there is no snow clearing service here in winter!

There is a private parking space (not directly next to the house) and also public parking spaces.

This is the ideal holiday base in both summer and winter.

Summer:

Hiking, swimming, water sports, mountain climbing, mountain biking, visiting towns and cities, exploring caves and salt mines, relaxing in a thermal spa… whatever takes your fancy is available and your days will be full of fun and excitement!

If you love bathing, you could hardly be in a better spot. You can swim in Lake Traunsee itself and, if that’s not enough, Lakes Langbathsee and Offensee are just a short drive away and a little further on are Lake Wolfgangsee, Attersee and Lake Hallstatt… you’re absolutely spoilt for choice.

You can start your hike directly from the front door; the house is located almost directly on the trail that leads to the Grosser Sonnstein… or why not take a hike on the Feuerkogel? The valley station of the cable car is located just 1.5 km from the house. You can walk through the wonderful nature reserve around the Langbathsee lakes against a magnificent mountain backdrop. Or explore the stalactite caves, ice caves and salt mines, while there are many interesting towns and villages in the vicinity that are worth a visit. And when you’ve had enough, you can simply relax in one of the thermal spas in Bad Ischl…

Culture and attractions ‒ just a few of the nearby towns and villages:
Traunkirchen, Gmunden, Bad Ischl, Hallstatt, Bad Aussee, St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen; even Mozart’s birthplace Salzburg is only a 75 km drive away…

Winter:

If skiing is your thing – on the slopes or ski tours – you look forward to snow shoe hikes or your heart is set on eating well and enjoying a good mulled wine to warm up in the winter landscape – the valley station of the Feuerkogel cable car is just a short 1.5 km from the holiday home. From the top, you’ll have a splendid view of this section of the Salzkammergut, over Lake Traunsee to Gmunden and the surrounding mountains.

Winter and piste fun are also available in the nearby ski resort, the Dachstein-West ski region. Should you grow a little bored of the local Feuerkogel ski area, this is just a 40 km drive from the house.

Alternatively, there is the option of relaxed winter walks around the Langbathsee lakes or cross-country skiing. The nearer of the two lakes is only 7 km away.

Once you’ve had your fill of the snow, you could take a trip to the historic town of Bad Ischl – where the Austrian imperial family had their summer residence – view the town and perhaps take a detour to enjoy a dip in a thermal spa…

Whether you’re primarily a skier or culture vulture (Bad Ischl, St. Wolfgang, Gmunden, Bad Aussee, Hallstatt are all nearby... Salzburg too is roughly 75 km from your front door) or prefer to recharge your batteries in the spas of Bad Ischl... there is something here to keep you occupied every day!
