BY CAR
The Valcanale valley is situated in the north-eastern part of Friuli Venezia Giulia, at the border with Carinthia (north) and Slovenia (east). The valley can be reached by car from several directions.
The main and smooth flowing access road is the motorway A23 ALPE ADRIA Palmanova-Udine-Tarvisio (120 km), which can be approached from motorway A4 Serenissima Torino-Trieste (via Mestre-Venezia). The reference tollbooth are Pontebba (after a 92 km from Palmanova), Malborghetto-Valbruna (customs barrier, 99 km), Tarvisio-Camporosso, (last exit before the border, 108 km). The border with Austria can be reached after 120 km. At any rate, off the motorway, you will get onto the national road SS13 Pontebbana.
This is the second most important access way to Valcanale. This road connects Sacile, Pordenone, Casarsa della Delizia, Codroipo, Udine, Tricesimo, Gemona del Friuli, Resiutta, Chiusaforte, Pontebba, Tarvisio. From Udine to Tarvisio the SS13 is not at all steep.
An alternative road starts from Chiusaforte along the Raccolana valley through Sella Nevea (1200 mt), reaching the Raibl lake, the village of Cave del Predil and then Tarvisio for about 37 km. Along the stretch Chiusaforte-Sella Nevea (18,5 km) the road is rich with turns and hairpin bends, however enchanting and smooth in Summer time. In Winter it might turn out demanding because of the snow.
It is possible to reach the valley also from Slovenia through the Predil mountain pass (1156 mt.) or from the easiest Fusine pass (851 mt.). The first road runs through the Isonzo river valley and comes from Gorizia (Gorizia - Tolmino - Caporetto - Tarvisio for total 105 km), while the second road comes from the Slovenian capital city Ljubljiana (via Jesenice-Kranjska Gora).
BY TRAIN
The Valcanale valley can be reached by train also. The reference train station is Tarvisio-Boscoverde, Roma-Vienna line, via Florence, Bologna, Venice/Mestre, Udine.

BY BUS
The Valcanale valley is served by public bus transport with daily trips to and from Udine, connecting all Val Canale-Canal del Ferro villages. Timetable is available consulting the SAF website.
In Winter time a Skibus service is added.
BY PLANE
The nearest Italian airport is the Friuli Venezia Giulia, located in Ronchi dei Legionari (Gorizia province), a 135 km from Tarvisio (motorway A23 and A4). Other airports: Treviso and Venice. A 65 km from Tarvisio there is the Austrian international airport of Klagenfurt and at about 120 km the Ljubljana Slovenian airport.
