Description
The 4-summit tour is one of the most beautiful high-altitude circular hikes for experienced hikers in the Salzburg region. The starting and ending point is the Gamskogelhütte at almost 1,900m above sea level. From mid-June to mid-September, the Gamskogelbahn takes you comfortably to the starting point of the panoramic high-altitude tour!

4 Summit Tour Finisher: Get your 4 Summit Hiking Pin:

When you buy the cable car ticket for the Gamskogelbahn, you get the "4-summit tour pass" free of charge at the lift ticket office in the Weltcuparena Zauchensee. If you have punched all 4 summit symbols, you will receive your personal "4 summit tour pin" as a reward and a nice souvenir in the Gamskogelhütte or at the lift ticket office.

Directions
On to the 1st summit - the "Arche" at 2,060m

From the Gamskogelhütte we start towards the first summit, the Arche. Below the "Jägersprung" you cross the world-famous Zauchensee World Cup course, exactly where in winter the world's best ski racers race over the jump at over 100 km/h and only touch down again 30-40m further down. We continue up the first climb towards the Seekarscharte. Shortly before the Seekarkessel, turn right, up to the Arche at 2,060m, the 1st summit of the tour with a wonderful view down to Zauchensee. (Walking time from the Gamskogelhütte to the Arche: approx. 45-60 minutes)

Tagweidegg - the 2nd peak

From the Arche you return to the Seekarsattel and on to the Tagweidegg at 2,135m. Once at the top, you can expect a magnificent panoramic view of the Niedere and Hohe Tauern, the Tennengebirge, the Dachstein massif, and across the idyllic Seekarsee to the Radstädter Tauern. In addition, you always have a clear view of all 4 peaks of the circular tour! (Walking time Arche to Tagweidegg: approx. 45-60min)

At 2,263m, the Schwarzkopf is the third and highest summit of the tour

From the Tagweidegg in the direction of the Schwarzkopf, particular caution and surefootedness are required. The path here includes some very steep and sloping passages and is only recommended for experienced, sure-footed hikers with good shoes. The Schwarzkopf is the highest peak of the tour, the effort of the ascent is rewarded with a magnificent view in all directions! (Walking time from Tagweidegg to Schwarzkopf: approx. 60-75 minutes)

4th summit: the Gamskogel at 2,186m - start of the Zauchensee World Cup course

From the Schwarzkopf, it's back towards Tagweidegg, but only as far as the junction towards Gamskogel. On the Gamskogel you can get a taste of professional sports, because this is where the World Cup ski races start over the approx. 70% steep starting slope. It's almost unbelievable that the world's best female skiers throw themselves down here in winter - hats off! (Walking time Schwarzkopf to Gamskogel: approx. 45-60min)

Descent from the Gamskogel, back to the Gamskogelhütte

After conquering all the many peaks, it's back to the starting point of the tour, to the Gamskogelhütte! Now you have earned a hearty snack AND upon presentation of the 4-summit tour pass, you will receive your personally earned "4-summit tour" hiking pin either in the Gamskogelhütte or in the World Cup Arena/main ticket office in Zauchensee! (Walking time from Gamskogel to Gamskogelhütte: approx. 45 min, down into the valley to Zauchensee either with the Gamskogelbahn or, if you haven’t had enough of hiking, via the World Cup route or via the Oberzauchensee Almen back to Zauchensee)
