Description

A route with only few differences of altitude which runs on both sides of the lower Val di Sole. The first part takes you through fruit orchards, small villages and pine groves. The second part on the cycle path alongside the River Noce. Alternatively the return can be by means of the Dolomiti Express, the local train. A very practical and fast course on varied terrain.

Directions

From the village of Piano by way of a very pleasant path you reach the small village of Mestriago. Staying on this road you will arrive at ‘Novaia’ where you will pass an antique farmhouse. Continue along this technical but pleasant road until reaching Deggiano. From here there is a climb on a dirt road until arriving at a point where there is a spectacular view of Dimaro, the Brenta mountains and Sasso Rosso. Take the single track to the village of Montes and a short tarmacked climb to the church of San Valentino.  This church at an altitude of 1.218 m is in a striking position at the top of a hill and partly surrounded by a cemetary, and is certainly worth stopping to see. Continue on the tarmacked road through the village of Bolentina, go uphill to a sharp bend. From here there is a nice dirt road, not very steep running through the woods. The trail continues on a single track road until reaching The Val di Rabbi (The Brewery). Cross the road for the Val di Rabbi and access the dirt road which passes through the village of Magras and arrives at the monestary of the 'Frate Cappuccini' an historic residence, in a panoramic and sunny position immersed in a large park. From here go on to the centre of the village of Terzolas. Near to the 'Torraccia' palace, once the home of the noble Malanotti family, and now the seat of the local council (note the harmonious angles of the towers; inside the tower there are many examples of antique frescoes) carry on keeping left slightly uphill to the church, built at the beginning of 1800. Carry on straight through the old part of the village until arriving in Samoclevo. Once in the village a steep uphill climb will bring you to the antique 'Rocca' located above the village, this was once a castle and home to the Caldes family and also the noble Thun family (a legend speaks of a tunnel which connected their homes). At the end of the road, accessing from the right, passing some newly built houses, there is an easy winding road, (agricultural) which goes to the village of San Giacomo with its beautiful gothic church, which was, until a few hundred years ago, known as 'Solasna'. Go under the arches along the narrow roads of the village until arriving at the other end, where the road, towards the village of Cis (once the home of an antique castle) becomes a dirt road. Keeping to the right the road ends and another lovely path begins through the pine grove. Bypassing a small religious monument and some barriers you arrive at Cis by means of the road through the fruit orchards. From here there is a downhill ride to Ponte di Mostizzolo, which has always been the dividing line between Val di Non and Val di Sole, and therefore well defended during wartime, crossing the bridge on the right is the cycle path which will take you to the villages of Caldes, Terzolas, Croviana, Malè, Dimaro and Commezzadura.
