- Description

The Vanoi Valley is surely the “wilderness” of Trentino, an ideal place for mtb excursions, alpine skiing and snowshoeing. We are on the porphyritic Lagorai chain of mountains that stretch from the RollePass to Pergine Valsugana, extending over three Trentino valleys: Primiero-Vanoi, Tesino-Valsugana and Val di Fiemme. Countryside of mainly vast pastures and extensive forests, bubbling torrents and the excellent network of forestry tracks complete the picture. Worth mentioning Mount Cauriol, Mount Cardinal and Mount Cece, not only due to the tragic events of the 1st World War, but because of their undeniable wild beauty, the granite mass of the Cima d’Asta group and the Pale di S. Martino group that dominate the skyline to the east. It is also worth visiting the Museum in Caoria dedicated to the Great War and the Eco-museum of Vanoi.
- Directions
-
Start from Caoria, where after the bridge on the Vanoi stream, the paved uphill road leads to the Refavaie refuge. Just before the bridge in Pront, continue to the right along a dirt road that leads to the refuge. Then continue in the direction of Malga Fossernica on a long dirt road, easy to pedal in some sections and more demanding in others, which leads to a higher altitude. At the junction for Malga Coldosè, keep right and climb to reach Malga Fossernica di Dentro and then Malga Fossernica di Fuori. Then downhill for a couple of km until the bend in Sella Spiz di Fossernica, where shortly afterwards we find a trail on the right (S3) that leads to Comedon di Sotto, where we meet a dirt road that reaches all the way to the town of Caoria.
