Catch the bus from Tulfes to the Patscherkofel lift valley station in Igls and then take it easy on the gondola lift up to a height of 1,964m. A point above the Schutzhaus Patscherkofel restaurant marks the start not just of the footpath to the east but also the Alpine Club's "Patscherkofel Nature Trail" (Naturlehrpfad). Europe's highest botanical garden, where there are more than 400 different high-alpine plants on display, is a good place for learning in situ.
The Stone Pine Path follows a wide mountain track / path to the rather remote Boscheben mountain hut. The gently undulating path − without any major height differences – runs at the tree line some 2,000m above sea level as far as the Tulfeinalm. Throughout the whole walk, there is a fine view over the floor of the Inn valley against the stunning backdrop of the Karwendel range opposite. It's easy to take the Glungezer chair lift from near the Tulfeinalm down to Tulfes.
