Description

The Raabtal Cycle Path has only one challenging ascent right at the start, after which it's all downhill. We start at the Raabursprung, which is located around 9 km north of Passail in the middle of an idyllic forest at the foot of the Teichalm in the Almenland Nature Park. Soon after Passail, we reach the village of Arzberg, which is famous for its Almenland Stollen cheese. From there we continue to the Grasslhöhle cave and the Katerloch stalactite cave, Austria's most stalactite-rich cave. A beautiful old town awaits us in Weiz, and in the next town of St. Ruprecht an der Raab we can cool off in the river and family adventure pool, the oldest river pool in Styria, and the Steirerkraft Kernothek. There are well-known excursion destinations around Feldbach, such as the Austrian Bridge Building Museum in Edelsbach or Franz Gsellmann's World Machine. From Feldbach, the route continues along the Raab again. A detour to Riegersburg Castle or Zotter Schokolade would be a good idea here. In Fehring, it is worth visiting the Berghofer Mill, which is located directly on the cycle path. From there it is not far via Jennersdorf to Szentgotthard, our destination.

Directions
Legendary experiences along the romantic Raab river
The cycle path begins in the legendary area around the source of the river Raab - high up in the forests at the foot of the Teichalm. In the wild gorges of the area people have always suspected noble metals and treasures. After a short cycle, the route leads us to the extensive tunnels of the former Arzberger Silberstollen with its world-class Almenland Stollenkäse cheese or to the Grasslhöhle cave. Immediately afterwards, a little off the Raabtal cycle path, the Katerloch stalactite cave, Austria's most stalactite-rich cave, invites us to visit it.
After a climb, the route descends at a roaring pace to the vibrant energy town of Weiz - and on to St. Ruprecht. The adventure pool there is a real adventure for young and old - of course there is a bathing bay, a children's pool, a great slide ... The Raab Valley Cycle Path from Weiz is generally very suitable for families: flat, almost completely asphalted and far away from traffic, it leads to Gleisdorf and onwards, always along the Raab.

Want a little reward? It's not far to the Raabtal Radl inns, there's one every few kilometers, where you can enjoy a delicious meal.

Insider tip: The unique pond landscape in Kirchberg an der Raab - an almost forgotten world of reeds and water lilies, fish, forest and bathing ponds and many rare animals and plants. The region has always produced inventive, strange, creative, quirky, successful wifzacks and farm boys, noblewomen and lateral thinkers, bridge-building collectors and beekeepers, such as Franz Gsellmann and his famous "world machine", the life's work of a simple, ingenious quirky man.

A little further on you roll into the land of castles and palaces! Kornberg Castle - a sounding name. Riegersburg, even more resonant ... until you cycle into the pretty district capital of Feldbach. Zotter's great chocolate factory is very close to Lödersdorf.

Cycling pleasure to the end
Once you have found your way out of the maize labyrinth, you can set off via Fehring, after a visit to the Berghofer mill, for the last short stage to Jennersdorf to the outdoor pool! Or you can cycle over the "green border" to Szentgotthárd, the destination of this cycle route. There are also regular railway connections to this point.

Stage suggestions:
Route NORD
From the source of the Raab to Gleisdorf. The northern tour (approx. 43 km) is a pleasure for demanding bikers and especially for e-bikers and offers the perfect challenge. It starts in Fladnitz an der Teichalm and ends in Gleisdorf.
Route: Usprung der Raab-Dürntal-Göttelsberg-Oberdorf-Mitterdorf an der Raab-St. Ruprecht an der Raab-Albersdorf-Gleisdorf

Route SOUTH
The southern tour (approx. 52 km) of the Raab Valley Cycle Path starts in Gleisdorf and leads to Jennersdorf in Burgenland. This tour is particularly suitable for amateur cyclists and families.
Route: Gleisdorf-St. Margarethen-Studenzen/Fladnitz-Feldbach-Lödersdorf-Fehring-St. Martin an der Raab-Jennersdorf

Directions
Public transportation
On the trains of the Austrian Federal Railways you have numerous possibilities to take your bike with you.

The BusBahnBim app makes it easy to get timetable information on the go via smartphone: all bus, train and Bim connections in Styria (and throughout Austria) can be queried by entering locations and/or addresses, stops or important points. BusBahnBim is available as a free app for smartphones (Android, iOS) - on Google Play and in the App Store.

The S3 express train line runs through the entire Raabtal valley parallel to the cycle path and connects Szentgotthard, the end point of the Raabtal cycle path, with Gleisdorf, where the S31 express train line continues via St. Ruprecht an der Raab to Weiz. This means that nothing stands in the way of a return journey to Weiz by train from any town with a train station.

Parking

There are plenty of parking spaces at the starting point in Passail. There are also several free parking spaces along the Raabtal cycle path.
