Abtenau: Fischbach-Wimmwald circular trail

The moderately difficult hike through the deeply snow-covered winter landscape offers sunny, but also quiet sections through the forest. Far away from road traffic, the hike leads along prepared winter hiking trails.

The hike begins at the east car park heading east past the WM Sport sports shop and leads past the forestry administration. (This is also the entry point for the Fischbach cross-country ski trail.) Now you reach a prepared winter hiking trail (190), which runs along the Fischbach stream for about 1 kilometre. At the end of the forest you reach an asphalt road, which you follow straight ahead for about 600m. Now turn left after the bridge and follow the road again for about 600m. Now the winter hiking trail leads left up to the Fischbachegg hill, where you can enjoy the magnificent "Alpine cinema" from the Bischofsmütze, over the Tennengebirge to the Hoher Göll.

After a short rest at the bench, the winter hike continues westwards. Cross the road briefly and take the path through the quiet forest (R36). After about 400m, turn left onto the prepared horse/winter hiking trail. At the end of the forest, the wintry landscape opens up with a grandiose panorama of the Osterhorn group mountains. Now you pass the Fliehof schnapps distillery. At the fork in the path, the trail again runs along the asphalt road towards Abtenau with a constant view of the Tennengebirge mountains. Once again you come to a crossroads, where you walk straight on to the row of houses and follow the road to the left, which then leads into the Wimmwald forest. Follow the winter hiking trail (170) until you reach the centre of the village and the kindergarten. Turn left there in the direction of the church tower, where the eastern car park is located behind the Abtenau parish church.

Coming from the A 10 (Tauern motorway), exit Golling-Abtenau, exit 28 or exit Lammertal-Hüttau, exit 56/60 and then on the Lammertal-Bundesstraße to Abtenau. In the village centre, head towards the east car park.
