Russbach: Rundweg über Ameisensee

A summer full of enjoyment: this is taken care of, not only by the village's Hornbahn cable car, which comfortably carries you up to the mountain pastures, but it’s lastly up to you to make your way by shanks' pony to where the air is a little thinner and the view a little clearer. And the children too will feel happy when the mountain pastures and fresh air beckon with new things to discover all along the way.

From the village square head in the direction of the Hornbahn lift and continue to the Franzlalm. Now the path takes you uphill to the right across open countryside until you reach a forestry path. Follow this towards the Hornbahn summit station until you come to a trail fork, where a steep path leads up to the Hornbahn summit station. From there a wide path takes you across alpine meadows to the boarding point for the Edtalm trailtrain. Now hike along a flat meadow path past the Ameisensee. Afterwards, downhill again on a forestry road until you reach the community of Gseng. Now take the old highway back to the village square. It is possible to ride the Hornbahn lift from Russbach up to the top of the Hornspitz (be sure to consult the timetable)

Coming from the A10 motorway, take the exit Golling direction Abtenau and Russbach. From Bad Ischl you drive via Bad Goisern and Gosau to Russbach.
