Brief description

For those that can muster the effort, can choose this route, a more strenuous variation via the bluntautal (valley) and the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus. However, for the last 330 vertical metres up to the Oberen Jochalm one must push! Exhausting, but the reward that follows on the sun terrace of the steel House overlooking the impressive Watzmann, is worth it. After a steep descent, the route continues above the Königssee, until we meet again on the main route.

Description

To shorten the tour from Hallein to Berchtesgaden, this variant runs via the Bluntautal (valley) to the Stahl Haus, and from there down to the Königssee. After the Salzach bridge in Golling, we turn left into the Bluntautalstraße. Beneath the Tauern Highway we reach the first refreshment stop, the Gollhof (Inn). Shortly after, we cross the Torrener Bach (stream) and follow the road to the Bärenhütte (cabin). A short piece is still relatively flat through the woods just before the pass road begins with its numerous bends. Only after the Hubertus Grotto, a "less steep" terrain extends to the valley station to the cable car. Now, it's not that much farther up to the Oberen Jochalm (1,399 m). Here is also the end of the forest road. On the following hiking trail, the bike must be "shouldered." A run is not possible and also not allowed. The hike is challenging for bikers, but rewarded not only with beautiful views, but also with the Carl v. Stahl-Haus at the Torrener Joch (1,730 m). Having arrived on the Bavarian side, the route is very steep down to the Schneibsteinhaus. Past the Königsbergalm, we reach the Königsbachalm. There, it goes right along the road, merges into the Scharitzkehlstraße at a car park and back onto the main route. The Scharitzkehlstraße and Vorderbrandstrasse lead for about 5 km downhill, then it continues right relatively steeply down to Schwöb (impressive ice age formations). In Schwöb, we turn left into the Alte Königsseer Straße, cross the Königsseer main street left down to the Königsseer Ache (river). Before the bridge we turn into the Königsseer Fussweg and ride to the power station, which we cross and keep upstream, and shortly after a campsite continue under the Schornstrasse. Straight after that, the route goes past the Kunsteisbahn Königssee (ice rink) and at beginning of the forest right up along the toboggan run to Hofreit, where we turn left into the Zulehenweg. This will take you to the edge of the forest, to Waldhäuser and Oberschönau, then left into Hinterschönau. After the farmstead Stanzer, a very steep and rocky footpath leads down to the Ramsauer Ache. Over the Wimbach (stream) turn right to cross the Ramsauer Ache and then turn left onto the Berchtesgadener Federal Road, which we leave again after about 800 m by turning left into the village of Ramsau. Past the church, we continue towards Hintersee by cycling along the Ache. Immediately after the bridge over the river, we turn right and climb the Alte Hinterseer Strasse up to the lake. At the Northern end of the Hintersee (lake) we turn left, along the beautiful West Shore (with restaurants, hotels, boat rental).
