Description

Discover the most beautiful sides of the textile city of St.Gallen and admire various Art Nouveau buildings from the era of its textile heyday.

Eastern Switzerland is internationally renowned for its textile tradition and special expertise in this industry. It is a true “textile country”, shaped by history and continuously renewed by the many successful companies based there. The influence of the textile industry in Eastern Switzerland can still be felt today – especially in the architecture.

The approx. 5 km long Textilweg Stadt St.Gallen takes you to prominent textile buildings in downtown St.Gallen. You learn fascinating facts about each building’s history, architecture and its current use. The trail starts at the Historisches und Völkerkundemuseum (Museum of History and Ethnology), at the Textile Museum or at the St.Gallen-Bodensee Tourism office.
