- Description

The order of the stations follows the chronology of Vadian's life and work. The tour starts at his monument, and then heads to the house where Vadian was born and later lived; it then continues on to the Stadthaus, or town hall, where Johannes Kessler, Vadian’s closest confidant, is introduced. The next two stations, the former abbey church and the St.Lawrence Church, are symbols of St.Gallen's secular development. The tour continues on to the Schiedmauer, a dividing wall built in 1566 to separate the town from the abbey, and Karlstor (Charles’ Gate), both of which are symbols of the political consequences of the Reformation. Meanwhile, the “Schlössli”, or little castle, is representative of the social class that descended from Vadian. The final stop is two former Catholic churches which stand for the implementation of the reformed faith in urban society: the former St.Catherine’s Convent and the church of St.Mangen.
