The Schwägalp circuit begins in Urnäsch, the traditional stronghold of Appenzell. From Urnäsch, the route leads past Osteregg and the Blattendürren up to Lauftegg. Up there you can enjoy a magnificent view of Appenzell as far as the mountain peaks of the Alpstein. Continue with a downhill run to Jakobsbad, where a visit to the adventure park and a ride on the toboggan run come highly recommended. The route continues to the Innerrhoden cantonal capital of Appenzell. Take a moment or two to enjoy the charming village with all its culture, traditions and culinary delights. After the visit to Appenzell, you continue along the Sitter river before turning right in Weissbad and leaving civilisation behind. Riding parallel to the Alpstein mountains, enjoy the idyllic landscape as you pass lush meadows and traditional Appenzell farms. Soon you’ll reach the Lehmen mountain inn, which is perfect for refreshments and a short break to catch your breath. Continue as the route leads steadily uphill, past a wonderful backdrop, until you reach Schwägalp below the Säntis. Schwägalp has plenty to offer. So why not make a short stop at the nature discovery park, the Alpine show dairy or on the summit of Säntis? No matter what you decide, you’ll definitely have earned the subsequent descent via the Steinflue and the Rossfall back to Urnäsch.
