Description
This stage is also part of the www.4berge3seen.at tour, a 4-day extract of the BergeSeen Trail. The transition from Mondsee to Fuschlsee is one of the "tamer" stages of the Salzkammergut BergeSeen Trail. The trail does require a bit of a sense of direction below the Schober - but before and after that, it offers plenty of leisure for viewing the landscape. In the middle of it all, a refreshment stop awaits you, whose culinary offerings promise additional energy for a short detour to the ruins.
Directions
From the tourist office in Mondsee, walk back along the route of stage 5 to the turnoff before Schwarzindien. After the Schwarzindien Yacht Club, however, branch off to the right, cross the main road and briefly follow the Höribachstraße (marking no. 10). Then take a path that branches off to the left past the Höribach Kul-turgut until you reach the road again. Keep to the right on this road, walk through the settlement and on to the Fuschler Ache. Cross the Mühlbach and then turn left over the bridge of the Fuschler Ache (always following the Höribachstraße) until you reach a farm. Turn right after the signpost "Wartenfels, Schober" a few steps to a modern chapel, before which you turn left again. Soon a hiking trail leads up to Obernberg. There turn right to a road, which you follow to the left. After a bend you turn left onto a forest road, which you leave again shortly after on the right on trail no. 10.

Now continue up through the forest slopes below the rocky Schober until you reach the parking lot of Forsthaus Wartenfels (924 m) - finally crossing the Salzburg border in a somewhat winding forest road up-and-down. 3:00 h

The detour to the ruins of Wartenfels Castle, built in 1259, is definitely worth it; an additional 30 minutes there and back).

Afterwards, hike downhill on trail no. 10 towards Fuschl, first through the forest and then across the meadows at the Musch homestead. At the bottom you will pass a golf course at the Waldhof-Alm. Branching off to the right, you will finally come to Ebner's Waldhof on Lake Fuschl and to the promenade on Seestraße, along which you walk into the center of Fuschl am See (699 m). The tourist office Fuschlseeregion is located at the village square. 1:00 h

Equipment

For all stages, you will need hiking or mountain boots with treaded rubber soles as well as wind- and rainproof clothing. A change of clothes and a small first-aid kit should also be included in your backpack. The amount of provisions you should pack depends on the number of available rest stops. In any case, you should always take along plenty to drink. Telescopic poles are helpful, especially when walking downhill.

Safety instructions

In alpine terrain, be aware of the danger of falling rocks.
Through early summer, you may encounter steep snowfields or firn gullies – especially during icy conditions, there is an acute risk of falling and thus fatal injury!
Due to storm damage, forestry work or construction work, individual trail sections may be difficult or impassable at times.
Cows in the alpine meadows are often curious. Because they are nursing mothers, they develop a strong tendency to protect their calves. Therefore, move through cow pastures quietly, keep at least 20 metres of distance to the animals and never pet calves! In the case of threatening behaviour (pawing, stamping) slowly back away (do not turn your back). Keep dogs on a leash. They must not bark at or chase cows. In the case of an attack, the dog must be released from the leash.

Tips

Summit detour to the Schober (1,328 m).
