Description
The starting point is at the Pension Seiser Toni guesthouse, at the foot of the Hohe Wand. This beautiful hiking route leads through the mountain forests, along the Grafenbergsteig path and up to the Hohe Wand. Our first port of call – the Wilhelm-Eicherthütte inn – is on the Grosse Kanzel. At 1,052 meters above sea level, it is the highest inn on the Hohe Wand, and one of the oldest mountain inns. From there, you can quickly climb the Plackles summit (1,135 m). There is nothing stopping you from taking a rest at the Eicherthütte inn, either on the sun terrace, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Schneeberg, or (in bad weather) in the heated lounge. Why not order a plate of Blunzn (black pudding) or Bratwürstel (grilled sausages)?

The next inn is the Turmsteighütte, which is situated at 1,025 m above sea level, in an idyllic location surrounded by woodland and meadows.  Rumour has it that the best Wiener Schnitzel on the Hohe Wand is served there.

The Hubertushaus (946 m), which is located in the direct vicinity of the Hochfallwand rock face, is popular among climbers. Those who have worked up an appetite have the possibility to not only enjoy the fabulous view, but also some tasty dumplings filled with cheese or spinach.

Experienced hikers can also head to the inns on the Grosse Kanzel via the Springlessteig path, which starts in Zweiersdorf and leads to the Hubertushaus. It is also possible to go up the Wagnersteig. That is an easy via ferrata. Visitors choosing to drive up the Hohe Wand can also reach the inns on foot, by following the Nature Park– Circular route – "In Wildenauer’s Footsteps”.

Directions
We walk past our starting point – the Pension Seiser Toni guesthouse – in an eastward direction, and then turn left onto an uphill path. We will follow this path until we reach the Wandfusssteig, where we will bear left. When we reach the Grafenbergsteig (marked in blue), we will bear right as we head uphill. At the top, we will keep right. The route leads directly to the Wilhelm-Eichert-Hütte inn. We will continue to the Turmsteighütte inn, by heading past the Wilhelm-Eichert-Hütte and turning onto the path. After the Tursteighütte, we will follow the road for a short while, before turning right and heading to the Hubertushaus.

On this trail, we can return to the Wilhelm-Eichert-Hütte directly from the Hubertushaus.

Preparation

When choosing the route, make sure it is suitable for your level of fitness and experience. Consult the weather forecast in advance. The weather can change with surprising rapidity in the mountains. Always make sure that you are suitably equipped before setting out (e.g. rain protection).

Check whether the inns and snack stations you intend to visit en route are open. Before setting out, inform someone which route you are taking and when you expect to return.

Tips
Combine your hike with an overnight stay at the Spanferkelwirt Gasthof Mohr guesthouse.

Don't forget to take the Vienna Alps Viewer – in its practical, hand-held format – with you on your tour!
