To 'conquer' the island, turn right onto "Leuchtturmweg" just after the Brückendamm, which connects the island with the mainland. The path runs almost around the entire island. First, you make your way to Gollwitz. With its shallow water depth, the beach of Gollwitz is ideal for families. From the shore you can marvel at the sanctuary for birds 'Vogelschutzinsel Langenwerder'. Along the coast with its unique views of the Baltic Sea you reach Timmendorf. Worth seeing are the 1871 built lighthouse and the small harbor. Passing the nature reserve 'Fauler See' and the manor house in Wangern 'Gutshaus Wangern', you will reach the main town of the island, Kirchdorf. Here you should not miss out on visiting the harbor and the brick church.

The tour starts in Fährdorf, directly behind the Brückendamm, which connects the island of Poel with the mainland. Turn right onto Inselstraße, also called "Leuchtturmweg". Follow the road until the road describes a left turn. Continue north on Vorwerk. This will take you to Gollwitz, where you can linger on the beach or visit the bird sanctuary 'Vogelschutzinsel Langenwerder'. Along the Baltic Sea we continue westwards. Cycle over Am Schwarzen Busch to Timmendorf Strand. The lighthouse of Timmendorf offers a far-reaching view over the island and the sea. Continue along the Baltic Sea to Fauler See-Rustwerder. From here drive northeast towards Wangern. Turn right here and get to Kirchdorf, where you can visit the island church (Inselkirche) or the castle wall (Schlosswall). Back to Fährdorf you drive again in a southerly direction on the highway.

You can reach the island via the exit "Insel Poel" of the motorway A20.
- Public transportation

By train you can reach the Hanseatic city of Wismar. From there you can take the bus to Gollwitz, Kirchdorf and Timmendorf - in summer Schwarzer Busch is also accessible by bus.
If you want to combine a visit of the harbour in Wismar with your bike tour, you also have the opportunity to take the ferry of 'Adler. SChiffe' to reach Kirchdorf on Poel.
Bicycles and dogs are taken on board.
