The ideal family excursion between pleasant villages and a wealth of nature
Benny and Evelyne and their three children Aline, Svenja and Thea from Lungern are testing the route to see if it makes a good day out for all the family:
They set off with their bikes from Kaiserstuhl and make for the eastern lakeshore with the aim of stopping off in Lungern to visit the church. Built in a neo-gothic style in 1893, it towers over the pretty village and is definitely worth a visit; it also offers wonderful views. The cycling family then heads for Obsee and the lower terminus of the Lungern-Turren aerial cableway. Although there is no time to go up it today, the family does make a little detour to the two-step Dundelsbach Waterfall. The water makes an impressive sight as it plunges into the depths, and the spray provides welcome refreshment on this warm summer’s day.
The route on the western shore of Lake Lungern then follows a narrow road past farmhouses, fields, flanks of rock and a shady forest. Roughly halfway along the tour, the family stops at one of the seven barbecue spots to grill something for their lunch. Benny goes to find wood with Aline and Svenja, while Evelyne and Thea prepare the food. They have to be patient: it takes a little time for the flames to make way for embers. The grilled vegetables and cervelats (which some describe as the Swiss national sausage) revive the children after their cycling exertions, and the family gets back into the saddle for the remainder of the tour around the lake. They make one more stop before their destination – this time at the Bürglen lido to cool off in the refreshing water, a welcome relief on this summery cycle tour. Why not do like them? - Directions
