Kareck mountain hike (20)

From Katschberg tourist information follow trail no. 20 through the hotel village, passing through the tunnel at Restaurant Stamperl, then continue uphill, always staying on this path (2nd tunnel), and passing Gasthof Bacher. This road becomes a forest trail that leads through the forest to Pritzhütte. After approximately 400 metres the path becomes moderately steeper but is not a dangerous path up to the summit of the Kareck, heading northeast on a narrow steep hiking track. From the summit and on a fine day, you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views as far as the Dachstein Massif and Karawanken. Return via the same route. Alternatively you can choose trail no. 18 in the Gontal, which leads to Gontalscharte and then on to Gamskogelhütte. From there you can take the so-called Rodelweg or the nature trail (Herzerlweg) no. 19. Both routes take you back to Katschberghöhe.
