Description: History

The Peterlewand in St. Urban is a gem, hidden behind the trees. During the time of the counter-reformation, the Peterlewand was a strategically important point. The first routes were set up in 1988 by a student from Bodensdorf. Over the years the climbing garden had been neglected, before it was completely taken out of all climbing guides. In the spring of 2015, the Peterlewand was opened again. The existing sport climbing routes of the Peterlewand were renovated and new interesting routes set up. The climbing routes were made for beginners and advanced climbers.

Wall character

The Peterlewand is a long-drawn-out wall-wall of solid ancient rock, is orientated to the east and about 8 to 35 meters high. In some places the wall is overhanging. During climbing you can enjoy the wonderful view over lake Ossiacher See. A few wall areas are vertical or slightly inclined. Via ferrata: Three variations, two in for the skill level A / B and a more difficult one with a key part in skill level C / D (difficult to very difficult). Sport climbing: there are around 30 routes from difficulty 4+ to 7a.
Directions: North of the parking lot you will find a gnposted path "Peterlewand", Follow the path to the left, uphill to the wall.

Safety instructions: Parking is only allowed on the designated and signposted parking spaces for climbers! You can kindly use the toilets from the hotel Urbani! The access and descent is only possible via the existing hiking trail The use of the climbing garden is only permitted with the provided climbing material! (helmet recommended) Climbing at your own risk! Behave responsibly - for all users of the climbing garden! Camping and open fires are strictly forbidden! Avoid any unnecessary noise and waste pollution! No independent extension of the climbing garden or holding of climbing courses without consultation with the operator! Dogs on the leash!
The different routes are marked with different colors according to the degree of difficulty:

GREEN climbing routes from 4 to 5b and via ferrata from A to B

YELLOW climbing routes from 5c to 6b and Via Ferrata C

RED climbing routes from 6c upwards and via ferrata D to E

Directions: On the motorway A10 take the exit Villach-Ossiacher See and follow the road to Annenheim and stay on the road along the northern side of the lake until you get to St. Urban. At the Urbaniwirt turn left into the Burgweg and immediately after the well turn left again to the parking lot of the "Sportgemeinschaft Tschöran".
Public transportation: The easiest way to get there is to use the train line S2 - exit at St. Urban.
