“Entspann di” on the Lake Neusiedl Cycle Trail
Our guests love it, and the ADFC (German Cyclists’ Association) has awarded it five stars. The most popular cycle trail in the region: the LAKE NEUSIEDL CYCLE TRAIL (B10). It is 125 km all the way round. Romantic trails that hug the reed belt, offering idyllic views of the lake, and scenic trails meandering between vineyards, wetlands and salt lakes transport you into another world. An excellent way to bring peace to your soul and spirit whilst also “reawakening” all your senses! Whether out with your kids, letting them jet ahead while you follow on behind, on a fun and sociable excursion with friends, or if you’re looking for a breezy “challenge” as a mountain biker – the Lake Neusiedl Cycle Trail ticks all the boxes. Regardless of whether you’re with the kids or a group of friends, you can shorten your tour with a boat ride from Illmitz to Mörbisch am See. Don’t forget to take a break now and again, and not just for relaxation reasons! There are some wonderful opportunities to refuel at one of the numerous “Buschenschenken” (wine taverns), or to soak up some of the varied cultural delights available – this stretch certainly isn’t short of ways to enjoy yourself. The lake is always worth a detour, as each of the many resorts has its own special charm! And you can rely on the sunshine that the Pannonian region is famous for, with a proven 2,000 hours and 300 days a year of bright rays smiling down. So head to Lake Neusiedl and hop on your bike, because this is a place where you can ride, ride and ride some more from as early as March…!

Where’s the best place to start?
We recommend starting your tour in Neusiedl am See. The main train station is located here, with trains arriving from Vienna (just 40 minutes away) and Bratislava. The access point to the Lake Neusiedl Cycle Trail is situated just a few hundred kilometres away. However, as this is a circular tour, you can also start at any other town along the route! Whatever you choose, please bear in mind the wind conditions, as even a mild breeze may make cycling this route rather strenuous as time goes on. Whether you decide to travel clockwise or anti-clockwise may therefore depend on the current wind direction.
How much time should you allow for a tour around Lake Neusiedl?
Experienced cyclists can complete this tour in one day. Families, on the other hand, may like to shorten or “enrich” their trip with a boat ride between Illmitz and Mörbisch am See. If you plan on making the most of the natural scenery, the cultural highlights and the culinary options available, please allow two to three leisurely days! Depending on what else you would like to see and do, please take into account the additional routes and the time you will need for these.
What is the trail surface like?
The Lake Neusiedl Cycle Trail is nicely asphalted for the most part. There are only two exceptions, which are gravelled sections: a short stretch between Weiden am See and Podersdorf am See located in the Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkel National Park conservation area, and a short stretch of forest between Fertörákos and Balf. The paths are therefore suitable for both touring bikes and mountain bikes.
What is the Lake Neusiedl Cycle Trail like on the Hungarian side?
There are only a few faintly discernible differences between the Hungarian and Austrian parts of the route. For example, the signposting: however, the information is still clear and complete. The cycle trail in Hungary has recently been re-asphalted in places, and the section between Balf and Fertörákos travels along a completely new stretch through the vineyards, offering a fantastic view of Lake Neusiedl through the reeds. The only disadvantage here is that some sections are unfortunately very steep (by Burgenland standards) and therefore rather challenging, particularly in summer.
