Description

From Marcelka cottage, after the slopes have been closed at 4:15 PM, we climbed the lower part of the ski slope Snežník A some 300 meters to the connecting slope and sledge trail which we followed up to Vyhlídka crossing above the slope Velký Slon. In winter, it is advisable to have a good winter footwear or traction aid on such a walk on snow. From the connecting slope, there are beautiful views of the valley, on the snowy slopes, and the setting sun colors the snow in pink. From Vyhlídka in winter the hikers follow the bike trail up to Sky Walk. Serpentins and swings took us there in a few minutes. Just in time to capture the setting sun with our freezing phones. After strengthening drinks at Slamenka cottage, we went back the same way. Thanks to the moonlight, we did not even need the headlights, and on the perfectly frozen snow, which was splendidly crackling and crunching under our shoes, we literally ran down. It took us less than 30 minutes to get back down to Marcelka cottage.

Safety instructions

Always plan travel and equipment according to the weather, especially in winter. Remember that you are in the mountains. The route proposed here leads partly along the slopes. We recommend that you start after slopes are closed and still move around carefully and safely. It is totally forbidden to try to shorten your way down the black slope, especially after dark. Such behavior is life-threatening. From the closure of the slopes till late night, groomers work on slopes suspended on safety ropes. For this route, we recommend lighting for the evening return hike - blinkers, headlamps or at least reflective elements. Frost. Very low temperatures can cause complications. Good clothes and shoes are a prerequisite even for short distances. Particularly for steep ascends and descents, footwear suitable for snow or snow traction aid for more secure step is needed. Even your electronics do not like frost. Our experience with frosts below -15 from this walk: batteries on phones, cameras and some of the headlamps stopped working and recovered only after we arrived home. Keep them warm and have spare parts.
