- Brief description
-
Chreuz is a quite easy tour accessible from the ski lift in St. Antonien. It is a nice tour to give a summit feeling for those who may be new to ski touring and want a gentle introduction. It is however one that can get quite a lot of traffic so it's best to go early.

- Description
-
From the top of Chreuz the view stretches from Klosters and the Gotschna ski area around to Madrisa, accross the border into Austria and down to the Rhine Valley. For quite a small and easily accesible mountain it gives a stunning overview of the surrounding countryside. The tour can be started from the ski area in St. Antonien therefore saving a little bit of the ascent and the north face can provide powder even when the south slopes in the area are quite crusty.
- Directions
-
Take the ski lift in St. Antonien to the top and then ski down to Sagen. Here you can put your skins/snowshoes on and start to climb up through the wildlife reserve on a prepared track which brings you past Capalgin and out of the woods into the open at point 1720. From here keep going in a WSW direction towards the Alp at Valpun. Shortly before the Alp you can turn south and follow the ridge up to the summit of Chli Chreuz. From here a very short descent to the pass between Chli Chreuz and Chreuz and then climb the east facing ridge to the summit of Chreuz.
Descent:
The North East face of Chreuz is 30-35 deg (a little more in places) so should only be done in safe conditions. If conditions are good it is possible to descent directly to Alp Valpun and then return to the climbing route back into the ski area of St. Antonien. If conditions are critical a safe route may be found by returning to the saddle between Chli Chreuz and Chreuz and then following the flattest route back to Alp Valpun. If conditions are very unstable the short walk to the top of Chli Chreuz should be done and the north east flank taken down towards point 1945 where you can rejoin the skin track to return to the ski area.
