- Description
-
Sitting right on the border between Switzerland and Austria St. Antonien has a huge amount of ski touring available at all levels. The Girenspitz is a relatively easy tour which can be done with careful route choice in a wide range of conditions. After a fresh snowfall there are some perfect powder slopes to be enjoyed on the descent and the views from the summit to St. Antonien, Partnun and accross the border to Austria are beautiful.
- Directions
-
From Büel take the road towards Partnun to Untersäss. If avalanche conditions are safe then follow the Alpweg up towards Mittelsäss. In critical avalanche conditions it is best to continue to Garstett and from here take a flatter route towards Obersäss. From Obersäss follow the flatter terrrain to the west towards the summit of Girenspitz, before coming under the potential avalanche runout from the steep east facing summit slope head slightly southwest towards the southern Fürggli where you can take the southern ridge to the summit.
Descent over the same route or in safe avalanche conditions with enough snow cover via point 2187 or Alp Garschina and descend directly to Untersäss.

- Safety instructions
-
It is possible to pick a route for this tour that is entirely under 30deg and also avoids passing under slopes of more than 30deg. This makes the tour technically relatively easy and also possible when the avalanche situation is somewhat critical. It is still best to exercise caution and not go into unneccesary risk.
- Tips
-
Go early. It can be a popular day tour.
