The 25-metre high Beri Waterfall is located at the beginning of the valley of the Godiča Stream which springs beneath Mt. Tolminski Triglav. Even though the trail crosses a few scree slopes, it is quite easy for anyone to get to the waterfall. The surrounding area of the waterfall with its pools is wild and magical when the daylight is just right. If you hike from the town of Tolmin you have a chance to enjoy in a splendid view of Tolmin in the village of Žabče. A little further along the trail you come across an enclosed pasture with certain domestic animals which are a genuine attraction for young hikers. On your return you hike along the meadows beneath the village of Prapetno all the way to the Soča River which you follow to the confluence of rivers Tolminka and Soča where you are greated by a festival atmosphere during the summer months. If you decide to start this tour in the village of Poljubinj you have a chance to take a nice and gentle tour ideal for a quick escape from the bustle of the city into the wild nature. You will have plenty of opportunities to taste the local cuisine when you return to the town of Tolmin.
- Directions
-
Follow the main road Tolmin - Ljubljana to the end of the town of Tolmin and cross the bridge across the Tolminka River. Turn to the left behind the bridge and take the narrow and steep paved trail which will take you to the road leading to the village of Žabče. When you arrive to the centre of the village, continue along the road leading to the village of Zadlaz - Žabče and, after approximately 10 minutes, turn to the right on the cart track which you will have to follow past the children's playground on the right all the way to the village of Poljubinj. Follow the road until you reach the junction between the houses Poljubinj 40 and Poljubinj 34 where you have to turn slightly to the left. When you arrive to the house Poljubinj 41 on the left, continue straight ahead towards the parking lot. From the last house Poljubinj 43, the trail descends to the water barrier where you have to cross to the left bank of the Godiča Stream. When you pass the barn, start following the signs for the Beri Watrefall and continue along the well-worn trail. Ocasionally you will have to cross earthquake-induced rock slides. Return along the same trail back to the parking lot and take the footpath to the left which is routed along the Godiča Stream. When you arrive to the road, turn to the left across the bridge and, at the junction behind a sharp turn, continue to the right towards the village of Prapetno. Follow the main road through the village and, just before you reach the last houses of the village, turn on the cart track routed across the meadow which will take you below the main road to a gravel trail along the Soča River. Turn to the right and follow the footpath all the way to the bridge across the Tolminka River. Cross the bridge and follow the gravel trail uphill to the right. The trail levels up after a couple of minutes and joins the paved road which initially ascends and then continues over a flat terrain to the starting point in the town of Tolmin.
