- Description
-
Mt. Svinjak is regarded as one of the most wonderful sightseeing hills of the Bovec area despite its relatively low altitude of 1653 m. The trail to the top is mostly routed through the beech forest. Only the last section with the altitude difference of 150 metres is routed along a steep ascent. This last section requires special caution in wet weather and is not appropriate for vertiginous hikers. On the summit (which is not a summit at all because the area with the sightseeing point is located at the end of a long ridge) you can enjoy in splendid views of the town of Bovec and the Bovec Basin.
- Directions
-
Park your vehicle at the unarranged and unsecured parking lot in front of the Hedvika Inn in the vicinity of the monument dedicated to the fallen Partisans. At the beginning, follow the yellow signs along the Mt. Čelo footpath. Above the village of Kal - Koritnica you can already notice the classic hiking markings which you follow to the top of the hill. Just above the village, the trail turns into a leafy forest and gradually ascends. The first time you come out of the forest shadow you find yourself at the scene of fire which was raging many years ago. Here, you can already enjoy in wonderful views of the Mt. Rombon Mountain range and Mt. Jerebica in the background. The trail returns into the forest for a short while and then leaves the forest at a higher altitude beneath the most difficult and steepest section - 150-m-passage. At this section, the trail is mostly routed along the vertical ridge and we advise you to be extra cautios especially in wet or strong windy conditions. Arrival to the top with the miniature Aljaž tower outweighs the struggle of overcoming the last section of the ascent. You are rewarded with views of the town of Bovec and the Bovec Basin, the Mt. Kanin and Mt. Rombon Mountain ranges to the northeast, Mt. Briceljk with its ridge to the north, and the majority of the Trenta mountains to the east. Deep below, you can notice the emerald beauty – Soča River. You return along the same trail you came from. Approximately 20 minutes before you arrive to the valley we advise you to make a short trip to the right and visit the historical Čelo battle stations – follow the yellow signs. Return to the starting point along the well-worn and marked trail for Mt. Čelo on the right side of the battle stations.

- Safety instructions
-
Most of the trail is undemanding. Only the last altitude difference of 150 metres is routed along a steep ascent and becomes quite demanding in wet weather. This section of the trail is also exposed to strong wind gusts. We advise you not to make this ascent during the winter months due to snow deposits and high risk of slipping.
This is an easy hiking trail. Use of the hiking trails is at your own risk!
- Tips
-
During your descend we recommend you to visit the Čelo battle station from World War I.
There is no drinking water along the trail. Make sure to bring your own water supply before you start the tour.
- Additional information
-
This trail is appropriate if you would like to take the tour on your own or if you would like to take it in the company of a local mountain guide that you can hire in the town of Bovec.
We strongly advise not to continue along the trailless ridge towards the west.
