Description

South above Lake Bohinj, Vogel Ski Centre is located on a high mountain plateau, which is quite an exceptional trailhead for many hiking tours, especially in spring and summer. Vogel is probably the most beautiful panoramic point to view Triglav from the south and also of the entire Bohinj. The cable car, operating all year-round, spares us about a 2-hour ascent to Vogel. Many inns and Merjasec mountain hut are open on Vogel

High mountain pasture Komna stretches above the Bohinj valley. During WWI, this area of Bohinj was part of the hinterland or a transitional area between the hinterland and the Isonzo Front battlefield. Many remains along the trail remind us of this period.

Dom na Komni mountain hut is open all year round and is located on a panoramic hill west of Lake Bohinj. The hut can be seen from the lake and its surrounding area. There is a panoramic terrace at the hut, which offers a beautiful view of the South Bohinj Range. The hut is also a starting point for hiking tourist to many Julian Alps mountains.

At the end of Bohinj Valley, above Ukanc and at Koča pri Savici alpine lodge, you can find the trailhead to visit the Savica Waterfall, hike to Komna, Krnsko jezero lake and the Triglav Lakes Valley.

Directions

Turn right (west) at Ski Hotel and continue along a wide unpaved road past Merjasec mountain hut. The trail goes downhill and brings you to an intersection. Turn to the right and follow the signposts for Komna, Sirarna Zadnji Vogel (Zadnji Vogel Cheese Dairy). The trail descends and you soon come to an intersection again. Take the left path and follo the signpost “Pl. Zadnji Vogel, Komna”. After a short climb, you will come to a rock-engraved signpost (Vogel) that will direct you to a walking path to the right where you will enter a forest. The forest path runs parallel to the wide path (ski slop) and goes downhill. When the path joins the wide path, follow the signpost “Pl. Zadnji Vogel”. The path crosses Zadnji Vogel ski lift and brings you to the intersection at Zadnji Vogel Cheese Daiy. Continue straight on past the cheese dairy and follow the signpost “Komna” (the route to Vogel drops off to the left). Soon you will enter a forest and go downhill. The path forks, take the left fork, because the one on the right runs to the valley. Soon you will exit the forest and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains. The trail goes uphill and mostly on meadows surrounded by dwarf pines. The trail veers to the left and takes you to an intersection. It continues towards Globoko pass (1,828 m), and you hike to the right towards Konjsko sedlo. Hike uphill on the left side of the valley, where you can enjoy the beautiful view of Konjski vrh and Bohinjski Migovec. When you reach the pass, continue to the right and follow the signpost “Komna”. Hike downhill and cross the slopes on the west side of Bohinjski Migovec (1,901 m). Soon you will reach an intersection. To the left, the trail leads to Škrbina (1,910 m), and straight on towards Koča na planini Razor mountain hut, continue to the right mostly on meadows, surrounded by dwarf pines. The trail turns to the right, where there is a greater density of dwarf pines. Continue hiking downhill and a beautiful view opens up to Lake Bohinj. The trail turns left and starts ascending through dwarf pines. You will soon reach an intersection, where you can go right and follow the signpost “Komna 45 min). If you follow the left path, you can come to Govnjač pasture. There are a few ascents and descents on karst terrain. The path is narrow. The surroundings are overgrown and there is almost ni panoramic view. When you reach the intersection, turn right and for a few minutes, you have to hike uphill to Dom na Komni mountain hut.

The Komna plateau is surrounded with high mountains like an amphitheatre. Thus, the mountain hut provides a beautiful view of the mountains and peaks around the plateau. You can see the edge of the plateau to the east, and the South Bohinj Range to the south. The peaks of Podrta gora, Tolminski Kuk, Mahavšček (Veliki Bogatin) and Bogatin can be viewed. The Vratca pass (Bogatinsko sedlo) is north of Bogatin, and rises above the Gracija valley. Above it you can see Srednji vrh mountain from the Lanževica massive; the view of the northern side is covered by the edge of the Na Kraju pasture, where the trail to the Triglav Lakes Valley runs.

66 bends must be walked to Koča pri Savici lodge, whereas 48 bends are in the last section of the trail. Walk along a wide mule track. You will also see a turn to the path that runs to Črno jezero lake. The trail descends gradually and takes you past a small artificial cave and to the forest. Soon you arrive to a small valley called Pekel (Hell). At the end of the valley, the trail starts descending and after 48 bends brings you to Koča pri Savici lodge. Go left across the bridge to the left bank of Savica and along a wide path towards Ukanc, past the holiday houses and to the narrow asphalt road. Continue to the bridge across the Savica, past the bus stop at Hotel Zlatorog and arrive at the trailhead (www.hribi.net, www.gore-ljudje.net, www.pzs.si).
