Gestratz, the smallest municipality in the district, has history: the parish was founded by the monastery of St. Gallen as early as the 8th century. In 1182, gestratz was first mentioned in a document as "Gesträze".

The numerous memorial stones and castle mounds, which still remind us of the time of the knights, are beautiful destinations for long hikes in the scenic foothills of the Alps around the village. The regular festivals and events in the Argenhalle provide an insight into the lively club life of the community.

The parish church of St. Gallus in Gestratz was built between 1435 and 1437 and was a pilgrimage church until the Thirty Years' War. The Gothic frescoes on the choir walls, attributed to Hans Striegel the Elder, are an art-historical treasure.

A visit to the cheese dairy is also worthwhile: in the morning you can look over the dairyman's shoulders as he makes fine alpine cheese.
