- Description

For pilgrims and pilgrims along the Styrian Mariazell Trail 06, the Teufelstein has already become a fixed point for a rest stop on the journey to Mariazell. We start the tour at the Zellerkreuz, a popular starting point for hikes in the Fischbach Alps. The panorama at the summit extends from Hochschwab over the Veitsch and Rax to the hilly landscape of eastern Styria and the Schöckl, the local mountain of Graz.
According to a legend, the devil Lucifer tried to build a tower to heaven in order to be accepted back into the realm of the blessed. However, he did not succeed in doing so in the allotted time - on Christmas Eve. This is how the Steintrum is said to have got its name.
The Teufelstein also attracts hundreds of enthusiasts every year for the early morning hike on the winter solstice to watch the natural spectacle together.
The hiking trail is marked with Teufelsteinrunde signs. Some sections also lead along hiking trail 740.

Proper backpacking makes a lot of things easier!
Pack heavy things first. The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket. All things that are often needed such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map, belong on top. An emergency kit including blister plaster belongs in every backpack and a clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended! A good hiking boot is a good companion and should never be missing on the mountain! Before the start of the hike, check the opening times for refreshment stops and pack the appropriate food.
