The ravine of the valley of Eggen: known as the ”Western-gateway to the Dolomites”, famous for the most beautiful porphyry gorge in the Alps, lies only a few minutes far away from the capital of South Tyrol, Bolzano. The castle of Karneid overwhelms the valley with its beautiness.
You will experience an unforgettable ride through the valley gorge uphill to the huge and densely wooded highlands (on an average of 1200 - 1500 m), lying at the foot of the colourful Dolomites´mountains of Latemar and Rosengarten. Lush meadows and huge woodlands surround the picturesque villages of Deutschnofen (1350 m), Eggen (1120 m), Obereggen ( 1550 m), Petersberg (1390 m), Birchabruck ( 870 m), Rauth (1280 m), and the place of pilgrimage Maria Weißenstein (1560 m).
