Almgenuss in Reit im Winkl - this premium trail offers the highest quality of experience. With 86 experience points, it plays right at the top of the league of premium trails of the German Hiking Institute. The dictionary suggests synonyms for enjoyment such as joy, pleasure or delight. Pleasure is certainly to be had on the Almgenuss premium trail, because it is excellently marked, and you only need a hiking map for your own sense of security. The "Hemmersuppenalm" plateau impresses with its quiet location and unique flora and fauna. The 7.5 km long trail is definitely enjoyable, but it is no walk in the park, as almost 600 metres of altitude have to be overcome. It is a real delight to walk through the green alpine meadows and the rustic mountain forests, past bizarre rock formations up to the Schuhmacherkreuz and Straubinger Haus.
- Directions
-
From the Hindenburg Hut (S), walk uphill on a paved path. Go straight up through a pasture area, with beautiful flower meadows to the left and right of the path. Follow the signs to the St. Anna Chapel (1) . From the chapel, go slightly downhill to the Obere Hemmersuppenalm. At the next junction, turn right towards Straubinger Haus. Now follow the meadow path gently uphill towards the end of the valley. The path rises, past a small waterfall, then over a footbridge. Continue upwards along this path. With wonderful views of the Chiemgau until you reach a signpost. Now turn left uphill in the direction of the Schuhmacher Cross 1 h, Straubinger Haus 1 ½ h. The trail now climbs more steeply uphill via steps, partly in the forest in steep serpentines through mountain pines uphill to the Schuhmacher Cross (2) , which was erected in honour of the Nuremberg soldier Michael Schuhmacher. On 23 November 1933, Schuhmacher was on patrol with a few comrades not far from the border to Austria on the Eggenalmkogel. Austrian guards were also on their rounds. They spotted the German soldiers and mistakenly thought that they were already on Austrian territory. They fired four times at the German border crossers, one bullet fatally striking the 21-year-old shoemaker. Soon afterwards, a cross was erected here. It is still a few metres uphill to a bench with a fantastic view - it is worth taking a rest here. Now follow the signpost Straubinger Haus for 25 minutes. A short stretch over the mountain ridge, then down through mountain pines. Well marked with red-white-red posts to the Straubinger Haus (3) (refreshment stop/playground). At Straubinger Haus, take a sharp right, past the chapel, and the trail leads back towards the Hindenburg Hut. Descend on a gravel and stone path, a stream splashes on the right. Take the path towards Sulzner Kaser, Hindenburghütte. The stony path almost always leads straight down. When wet, the descent is very marshy and slippery as it leads through high moorland. Continue downhill in serpentines. Forest sections alternate with meadow sections. At a crossroads, keep right towards Hindenburg Hut 45 minutes. At the next junction, continue straight ahead. On the left, the Sulzner Kaser mountain pasture (4) invites you to stop for a break. A few metres later, turn left towards Hindenburghütte and return along the same path. In the beer garden of the inn (S) you can end the hike with a beautiful view of Lake Chiemsee.
