Welcome to Barbian

Slate tower in vine and chestnut slopes.
Barbian's southern charm begins with a leaning church tower - which is apparently even more leaning than the Campanile of Pisa. Nevertheless, the holiday blessing hangs perfectly straight here: here, in a sunny low mountain range at 830 metres above sea level, the idyll is still just right for eventful days. Cosy hamlets - Kollmann, Saubach and Dreikirchen - nestle on the gentle slopes, in between hiking trails, historic roads, waterfalls and Törggele farms.

Hiking all year round
You can hike here all year round. From Kollmann, for example, along the paved paths of the old imperial road to the Ritten, from Saubach to the best vantage points high above the Eisack Valley, to Bad Dreikirchen to the three enigmatic chapel buildings, along Törggele paths to worthwhile refreshment stops or to the waterfall, which plunges impressively into the depths from porphyry rock. The Barbianer Hochalm and the Rittner Horn (2,260) are also popular high-altitude destinations in winter.
