Winter
Velturno is the ideal starting point for various winter activities. There is something for every traditional winter athlete who likes skiing, cross-country skiing, sledging, ice skating or ski touring as well as for all lovers of trend sports. Skiing Wonderful slopes, sun and powder snow are the best conditions for an unforgettable skiing experience. Ski lift in Velturno 2 km from our house there is a small ski lift where you can enjoy your first experience on skis – but also the more experienced can have fun there. There is also a wooden stall where you can regain your energies drinking mulled wine or a hot chocolate. The skiing area Plose Only 12 km from our house, an unforgettable experience of sport, nature and adventure is waiting on you! The Plose is the entrance to the Dolomites. From the peaks of the skiing area you can enjoy a spectacular 360° panoramic view on the Dolomites in the south and on the northern alpine ridge in the north. The Plose is a small but fine skiing area which offers something for every winter sport enthusiast. The wide slopes offer enough room for every skier so that you don’t feel limited by others – ideal for families! The “Trametsch”, a ski slope measuring 9 km and a vertical drop of 1400 m, is waiting to challenge the most ambitious skiers! For snowboarders, the “Snow Island Team” prepares and guards a large fun-park with jumps, quarter-pipes, rails, and boardercross. The skiing area Gitschberg Jochtal The winter sports area around the “Gitsch” – as this round mountain is called by the locals – is located above Maranza at an ideal altitude going from 1400 to 2500 m asl. With the help of modern snow-making facilities, all ski and snowboarding enthusiasts have at their disposal perfectly prepared slopes from the beginning of December until Easter. There are two small ski lifts directly in the local area with practice slopes offering ideal conditions for children and beginners to start their winter sports careers. You can reach the Gitschberg in approximately 15 minutes with the eight-seater cabin cableway “Nesselbahn” and enjoy wide and well structured slopes which guarantee fun for beginners as well as experts. Except for the black marked ski slope “Sergerwiese”, the Gitschberg is very family-friendly. On the Gitschberg you will find 22 km of slopes, 2 cabin cableways, 2 four-seater chair lifts and 4 ski lifts. Ski Touring in Feldthurns Mountain An alpine paradise The immense expanse of white snowcovered slopes, the tranquillity, the feeling to be really close to nature and to stand alone on the mountain top enjoying a breathtaking view – an experience you will become addicted to quite easily! On your way up you are surrounded by beautiful glittering in the early sunlight. There are only your own tracks behind you in the snow. The air is crisp and crystal clear, the last patches of fog vanish and you can see the summit in all of its beauty. Ski touring offers you a stunning experience which makes you feel close to nature and to the sky, and far away from your everyday life. Snowshoeing Once experienced the magic of a snowcovered winter landscape off the traditional hiking trails, you don’t want to miss it anymore. Snowshoeing is by far more than a simple hike through a white landscape – the thoughts of everyday life vanish at the sight of the fairytale surroundings, the enchanting silence of nature evokes humility, respect and awe. A challenge for the body, balsam for mind and soul.
