innovations Lech - Zürs am Arlberg
Lech and Zürs are not only known as the cradle of skiing, but also as untiring pioneers when it comes to innovative improvements in comfort. Thus, Lech Zürs has already been voted the best ski resort in the world for the fifth time in a row, while readers of DSV voted the Arlberg number one ski area in Austria.lifts and cable cars
While the world?s first ?heated chairlift? went into operation on the Schlegelkopfbahn in 2005, almost nothing but ?hot bottoms? will be riding around the Lech Zürs ski area in winter 2006/7. In addition to the Hexenboden, Hasensprung, Kriegerhorn, Zürsersee, the Petersboden, Schlegelkopf, Steinmähder and Valfagehr cable cars, the Trittalpbahn and the Seekopfbahn in Zürs will be fitted with comfortable upholstery and heated seats. The latest information on the ski area can be found on the homepage of Skipool.
ski lodges
Anyone who has ever completed a circuit of the White Ring in Lech Zürs knows the legendary Palmen Alpe. Just the thought of it makes one think immediately of ?Rudi?, ?giant pizza? and the ?best sunsets?. All these popular associations are the same; only in future there will be one more distinguishing feature to mark this location: the Palmen Alpe will have a non-smoking eating area. Everyone who enjoys a cigarette after their meal is welcome to smoke at the bar.
?International surveys and top home-grown restaurateurs know that guests increasingly prefer to enjoy meals in restaurants without the smoke. Smoking is already banned by law in countries such as Italy, Ireland and Scotland. In terms of high-quality gastronomy, our landlords are showing a high degree of foresight by not waiting for a ban. As director of the local tourism office, I?m delighted about the voluntary initiative taken by the operator of the Palmen Alpe to set such a good example with Austria?s first smoke-free ski lodge,? says Gerhard Walter, Director of the Lech Zürs Tourism Office.
ski resort Lech - Zürs am Arlberg
Austria is home to one of the world’s best ski areas, the Arlberg region, which lies between 1,300 m and 2,811 m above sea level. This was, at least, the verdict of the experts at Ski Resort Service International, who crowned Arlberg one of the best ski resorts around the world for the 4th time in their international assessment.
The five towns in the Arlberg region have been charming visitors since time immemorial.
The relaxing, luxurious Lech, classy Zürs, homelike Stuben, exclusive St. Christoph and sporty-cosmopolitan St. Anton am Arlberg have proved popular with their visitors for many years.
The Arlberg is not a mountain, but rather a pass which connects the Austrian provinces of Tyrol and Vorarlberg. Winter sports enthusiasts require only a single lift pass for the entire region. The Arlberg Card gives its holders access to a snowy paradise with 85 mountain railways and lifts, 276 km of ski-runs and 180 km of deep powder runs. Heated lift chairs add a luxurious touch to the cold wintery days.
Free ski buses shuttle guests between the individual resorts. Sun terraces invite skiers to enjoy a spot of après-ski, and indulge in a variety of other activities such as ice skating, curling, ice-carting, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, winter hiking and sleigh rides, all of which are guaranteed to make the winter holiday an experience for the whole family.
Cosy apartments and family-friendly guesthouses, top-class hotels, ski schools and childcare, welcoming Alpine huts and gourmet restaurants…the list is endless.
In addition to great value all-inclusive offers in the run-up to Christmas, in January and during the sunny skiing period in April, the Arlberg resorts also offer an event programme packed with unmissable highlights.
