In this romantic mountain village, as in an old tale of the area, the fox and the hare really do still bid each other good night. The old wooden houses and the beautiful church are exemplary of the traditional villagers. The protected area around the Lauenensee (Lake of Lauenen) offers fascinating views of waterfalls, glaciers and moors.
The winter in Lauenen brings with it peace and quiet with a great choice of long winter hikes, cross-country trails and horse sleigh rides. The villages and ski areas of Gstaad and its surroundings are easily accessible (within minutes) by public bus, known as the Postauto or by car.
