Ski resort Kitzsteinhorn - Kaprun
Gipfelwelt 3000 with new Nationalpark Gallery • “The Power of Zehn“ for kids & youth • New snow-making system
Kitzsteinhorn: freedom on 3,000 metres
Freedom is the ability to make choices, and that’s why Kitzsteinhorn with its countless offerings to spend a happy day in the snow promises pure freedom: to ski on the wide slopes of the glacier, to enjoy powder runs on the brilliant off-piste routes, to improve your trickery on the top-notch kickers and rails of the Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark, to marvel at the mystic Nationalpark Gallery of the new Gipfelwelt 3000 or to join in the varied events – from autumn to spring, Austria’s first glacier resort presents a winter sport experience for all senses!
On 3,000 metres above sea-level and starting with the first snowfalls normally in the middle of September, the legendary ice and snow world of Kitzsteinhorn at Zell am See-Kaprun, Salzburg County, Austria, provides everything the heart of a winter sports enthusiast desires: slopes for all skill levels, state-of-the-art lifts, freeriding XXL format, praised Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark, new Gipfelwelt 3000, and an extended snow-making system. This is made possible by the new combined pump and small-power station that pumps water from the impounding reservoirs in the valley to the Langwied reservoir in winter and serves as a turbine using the melting water of the glacier collected in the Langwied reservoir for the generation of electricity in summer.
Only 10 Euro for kids and youth on Saturdays: “The Power of Zehn”
Kitzsteinhorn shows its heart for kids and youth: in cooperation with partner resorts Schmitten at Zell am See and Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang, Kitzsteinhorn has started the “The Power of Zehn“ campaign. On Saturdays, kids and youth between 6 and 18 years pay only 10 Euro for the single-day ticket!
Five off-piste routes and freeriding information system: Freeride XXL
Powdery natural snow, ridges, chutes, and cliff jumps – five off-piste routes near to the lifts and an extensive information system make Kitzsteinhorn one of the most popular freeriding destinations of the Alps! On the “Ice Age“, “Westside Story“, “Jump Run“, “Pipe Line“ and “Left Wing“ routes, safety is written with a capital S. The Freeride Info Base at Alpincenter offers a checkpoint for avalanche beepers and delivers all lowdown on the routes, as well as avalanche, weather and snow reports. The Info Points at the entry to the five routes offer detailed information on the runs and alpine risks. At the PIEPS Avalanche Training Center, freeriders can practise the use of their avalanche transceivers. And the Freeride Camps offer beginners the possibility to also get going with freeriding XXL.
Freestyle playground for everyone: Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark
Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark with its 3 parks and Austria’s largest super-pipe provides snowboarders and freeskiers with endless possibilities to show and practise their tricks and moves. At the snow-proof altitude of 2,500 to 2,900 metres, beginners, advanced and pros find the perfect playground for their freestyle manoeuvres. Already in autumn, they can begin to shred the Glacier Park on 2,900 metres at the glacier. In winter, Central Park, Easy Park and the massive Superpipe are the centre of the Kitzsteinhorn freestyle action. Another location to enjoy some jibbing is Railgarden Lechnerberg down in Kaprun – the perfect location for relaxed sundowner sessions.
Action to participate: the events of the 2011/12 season
The series of events at Kitzsteinhorn in the 2011/12 winter season starts on November 4 to 6, 2011, with the White Start Games offering free tests of the newest skis, music and much more. On November 12 and 13, 2011, the Back on Board contest and test weekend will be held at the Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark. Freekiers can improve their skills at the Youngblood Freeski Camp (December 16 to 18, 2011) or cheer for the world’s best riders at the Austrian Freeski Open from March 5 to 11, 2012. The season will end with the “Gletscherfrühlingsfest” from April 28 to May 1, 2012.
